End of Watch Meme: Origin, Song and the AI Version

From a 2012 police film to a 2023 TikTok brag to the 2026 AI trend: the End of Watch meme, its caption, its sound and how the AI version works.

The film

End of Watch is a 2012 police thriller written and directed by David Ayer, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as two LAPD partners. Much of it is filmed as if by the officers themselves. In one early scene Gyllenhaal’s character points a small camera at himself in the station locker room and shows off his duty equipment one item at a time, until his partner barges into the frame.

The 2023 TikTok post

On August 10, 2023, the account @xylofiles posted an edit of that scene with a short intro: a girl posing under the caption “my boyfriend is 6’5 and can fight”, then the locker room. The gear became the punchline to her brag. The post reached 5.8 million views and roughly 938,000 likes. On August 16, a gym version filmed to the same sound passed 800,000 views, and the format spread from there.

The song

TikTok lists the sound as an original sound by xylo. On YouTube, uploads of the locker room edit identify the beat as a slowed, reverbed version of “Twirlanta” by 22Gz. If you make your video with End of Watch AI, the sound of the 2023 post is kept exactly as it was.

The AI version

In late October 2026 the meme came back with AI: people began putting new faces into the locker room, from friends and partners to Halloween costumes. That is the version End of Watch AI makes. Your selfie replaces the officer in the night close-up and the gear check, and an optional second photo replaces the partner who leans in at the end.

Why it keeps working

The structure is short and readable without sound: a brag, a close-up, five pieces of gear and a grin. Each part takes a second or two, so the face in it is on screen for almost the whole video. Swap that face for someone the viewer knows and the old joke reads as new.

Make your own

Open the End of Watch meme maker, add a selfie, add your partner if you like, and you will have your version in about 10 to 20 minutes.
